Copilot is the safe corporate choice: it lives in VS Code, JetBrains, and neovim, and it is already approved in a lot of procurement stacks. Completions are fast and 'good enough'; Chat and coding agent have closed much of the gap with Cursor, especially inside GitHub. The advantage is ecosystem — PRs, Actions, and enterprise admin. The disadvantage is feel: Cursor still ships the more opinionated, aggressive editor experience. If your company is standardized on GitHub, start here.
Editor verdict
The easy yes at work. Enthusiasts will still keep Cursor open.
Pros
- Works in the IDEs enterprises already allow
- Strong GitHub-native PR and repo loops
- Cheaper individual plan than most agent editors
Cons
- Editor experience still trails Cursor for agent-first work
- Suggestions can be generic on unusual stacks
- Business admin is a feature and a bureaucracy
Best for
Teams standardized on GitHub who need an approved, everywhere copilot.
